Matt started buying and selling at York car boot sales, drawn to objects that felt different. Early on, working in an industry dominated by older generations wasn’t always straightforward. Starting out at 17 meant having to prove his place.
By 20, Matt had established TallBoy Interiors and moved towards decorative antiques — a shift that shaped the direction of the business and brought a stronger sense of alignment with how he wanted to work.
From carboots to a showroom
TallBoy grew from antiques — sourcing across the UK and Europe and developing a reputation for pieces that felt considered rather than collected.
Over time, the business moved into a permanent home in a restored Georgian chapel in Malton, North Yorkshire. A space that brings together antiques, handmade furniture and ongoing projects in one place.

The Made by TallBoy collection is built in the UK with a small team of skilled makers, using solid materials and traditional techniques. Seating, lighting and accent pieces — all made to order and built to last.
